The most striking feature of the 20-storey glass tower is the variety and originality of its volume, which lends a completely different appearance when observing it from the city, the sea or from the coastal ring-road. It has spectacular horizontal jut, which as a result of both its location and its architectural singularity have made it a landmark on Barcelona's skyline. With the arrival of the company in Barceloneta, this district now has a new public square called Plaza del Gas at the gas company request, located on the site where the first gasworks in the history of Spain were located 160 years ago. The facade is clad in 18,000 m2 solar clear control glass, supplemented by a low-emissive top layer, all provided by Glaverbel. This makes a highly energy efficient facade combining excellent insulation (U value: 1.4 W/(m².K) with the protection needed to cope with solar light and heat (solar factor: 21%). Enric Miralles died shortly after winning the tough design competition.
